ABOUT THE COURSE

The Online Tajweed Course is a comprehensive learning experience designed to help learners master the correct pronunciation of Arabic words. The course begins with an introduction to Arabic phonetics, giving learners the foundational knowledge to distinguish between accurate and incorrect pronunciation. To further reinforce understanding, practical examples, interactive activities, and exercises are used throughout the curriculum to assist in creating mental maps of the material covered. This way, students can gain an intuitive grasp of the language even as they learn its rules.

WHAT DOES TAJWEED OR TARTEEL MEAN

Tarteel means “Recitation” It is used in Al-Qur’an in Surah Muzammil, verse 4, as ALLAH Almighty instructs the Prophet saying:

“and recite the Qur’an in slow measured rhythmic tones”

The Arabic for “slow, measured rythmic tones” is tarteel. Tarteel is the term used to define the rules that explain how to recite the Qur’an in the way and manner that the angel Jibreel(AS) to our beloved Messenger(SAWS).

Tajweed means “Improving” or “to make something better.” Tajweed is a manner of beautifying the recitation of the Qur’an by reciting in a much slower manner than tarteel.

When praying, we recite with TARTEEL, not TAJWEED! Tajweed is a form of recitation in which the rules of TARTEEL are used. Therefore, when discussing the rules of recitation, the proper term to use is TARTEEL, for one cannot learn tajweed without first learning tarteel.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

• The minimum age is 4+ years.
• It is important to have the ability to read words and sentences from Mus’haf accurately.
• Familiarity with the rules of Tajweed is essential to produce accurate pronunciation when reciting the Quran.
• Competency in reading aloud from the Mus’haf.
• The ability to apply and explain all relevant Tajweed rules when listening to or participating in a Quran recitation session.

COURSE GOALS

The Online Tajweed Course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the principles of reciting and intonating the Quran. Through this course, students will develop a strong foundation in the Arabic language, its pronunciation, and its application within Tajweed.

• Recognize and pronounce Arabic letters in the proper context.
• Articulate the rules of Tajweed, along with their purpose and application.
• Demonstrate an understanding of MeemSaakin, Noon Saakin, Moodud (extended sounds), Ghunnah (nasal sounds), and Qalqalah (echoing sounds).
• Recite two portions of the Quran accurately and with perfect fluency.
• Use their acquired knowledge to improve their spiritual connection with the Quran through its recitation.
